Football Betting: The Final Weekend Review

16 May

The Premier League is now finished and Manchester City have been crowned champions in what was a truly extraordinary and thrilling last day. All the season was a topsy-turvy climax and the last round was the mirror of what we have seen previously.

Manchester United were champions for one minute and than City managed to score a winner thanks to Sergio Aguero well into injury times. As a neutral was a fantastic to watch so that should have been truly extraordinary for City’s fans.

QPR did well as they also played for most of the second half in 10 man after some disgraceful behaviour from Joey Barton. Mancini’s team couldn’t make the best use of the additional man and were losing until the end of the regular time. The last day must have been truly painful for United as when their game was finished they were thinking that it was job than just to learn few minutes after that things changed at the Ethiad.

Apart from the top 2 the last day was also key for the Champions League. Newcastle had a fantastic season but the dream didn’t become reality and 3rd and 4th positions were taken by Arsenal and Tottenham who managed to win both their final matches of the season. Spurs won comfortably against Fulham, Arsenal had a bit more struggle but were able to keep cool and go on to win against West Brom.

Even if they had a great season Alan’s Pardew team just fell a little bit short and their campaign ended with a poor performance at Everton. Chelsea have the great merit to qualify for the Champions League final although their domestic campaign has been disappointing: they ended it with a 2-1 home win over Blackburn but they couldn’t improved their 6th place. Everton’s win over the Magpies allowed the Toffees to be the best team on Merseyside this season.

Liverpool finished with a loss a very disappointing season. Kenny Dalgish has been sacked today and there is a lot of work to be done for the Reds that need to improve from what has been a disastrous campaign. Fulham and West Brom managed to cemented their places in the top half of the table even if they were both defeated by teams that were challenging for a Champions League spot. This was a very good season for West Brom although they now have to find a new manager as Roy Hodgson has accepted the England job.

Swansea finished their season with a prestigious win over Liverpool. Brendan Rogers has done a miracle and the Welsh side will play another campaign in England top tier. Norwich also had similar success finishing 12th: considering that just 2 years ago they were in League One, this is an incredible achievement. Despite Stoke invested heavily during last summer they didn’t improved much in this season. The Potters managed to draw the last match against Bolton that were relegated as a result.

Aston Villa ended their season with a defeat at Carrow Road: for Alex McLeish’s side this has been a terrible campaign and they were just lucky that this year there were sides even weaker than them. Aston Villa will change everything during the summer and have already started the revolution by sacked their manager.

Now that the Premier League is behind us, we will focus on the Euro 2012. You can get Ladbrokes Free Bet for this tournament
