Euro 2012: Quality England will go far!

17 Jun

England win against Sweden was fantastic. The match was truly enjoyable and I think the Three Lyons were superb in attack. In defence they didn’t play with the same attention as in previous match but it doesn’t really matter now.

England show in yesterday’s game how threatening they can be in attack and considering that Wayne Rooney wasn’t there that performance is even more impressive. Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck finish on the turn was exquisite but the best goal in my opinion was the first one scored by Andy Carroll. Well done Roy to bring it in this tournament and to field him against the Swedes. The English managed knew well that their opponents were vulnerable in the air and the way Carroll rose above Granqvist was devastating. The cross from Steven Gerard was fantastic too.

Now for England the future is bright. Against Ukraine they will have Wayne Rooney available and even if the others have played well he cannot be left out. My suggestion would play him alongside Welbeck and the Three Lions will have a very strong attack which will give very little reference to the co-hosts defence. They also have the advantage of knowing each other well as they play together at Manchester United. Carroll can be in the bench ready to go in if need it.

Theo Walcott could play on the right: the Arsenal player is very talented and it was another great decision for Roy to bring him in. Theo has such a pace that he can rattle any defence. Ukraine had problems to deal with France strikers and I am sure they won’t like someone like Walcott. If England’s attack was good than also was the midfield. Scott Parker and Steven Gerrard played a terrific match. Parker has had a great season with Tottenham and the way he was breaking up play and drive England forward was something that hit Sweden harder. Steven Gerrard has had two very good games at the Euros so far and his cross for Andy Carroll was a moment of magic. Honestly, I wouldn’t swap England’s attack for any at this tournament including Spain and Germany.

On the less positive side England’s defence went backwards but this can happen from time to time. I won’t change my mind on them tough as I think that John Terry and Co. are very experienced and when games will be more tied like against France they will not disappoint. I think England will beat Ukraine. Yes they have the home fans roaring and Shevchenko will be keen to give the Three Lions trouble but overall they are an average team who were lucky to win the first match and immediately succumbed against France. Laurent Blanc’s men exposed their defensive weaknesses and I think England will follow the same path. Goodbye Ukraine
