Premier League Betting: Will Robin Van Persie eventually leave Arsenal?

17 Jul

Fabregas knows well that going public to the media that you want to leave Arsenal may just have the effect of delaying the transfer to happen. Robin Van Persie has done the same thing and looking at the betting market Arsenal are still odds-on to lose the Dutch over the next two months.

Robin Van Persie will return to pre-season training on Monday and after announcing that he won’t sign an extension to his Arsenal contract there will be hardly anyone who will cheer him at the Emirates. The captain hoped that by going public with his declaration of dissatisfaction he would invite teams to start pestering Arsenal with huge offers to close the deal as soon as possible. This hasn’t happen as everyone, Manchester City included, think that if Arsenal are being forced to sell his best player than the asking price would have to go down and not up.

Even if Roberto Mancini publicly said that he is interested in RVP, he has denied reports that one from Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko will be sold so apparently even with the Champions League to play there isn’t space at the moment for Robin at Ethiad.

The Premier League champions look the only team that are capable of buying the striker and although elsewhere there have been signals from Real Madrid and Barcelona, there is nothing official. Italian giants Juventus are the only team that has showed the most sustained interest but van Persie is not convinced of Serie A’s appeal and would rather remain in England or move to Spain.

Let’s look at reasons why the reigning PFA player of the year and FWA footballer of the year is failing to attract strong attention from big clubs. His ability to produce top performances at Euro 2012 will probably be a factor but most importantly the fact that he is already 29 would be a cause of concerns. He is also injury prone as before last term he failed to start more than 24 Premier League games and with ageing this it is not likely to get better.

Arsenal would be keen to sell his player in this window as if they don’t do so than the risk of seeing him go for nothing would be real however they could keep him until the winter and seal the deal then.

We have already seen a big moves this summer with 30 years old Zlatan Ibrahimovic going from AC Milan to PSG. In this case tough the French side was sure that they were investing on a man who has a eight years of consistent availability, impact and title triumph behind him. Robin Van Persie has great qualities but he still has everything to prove and with 29 years old…the time may be running out.
