Europa League Betting Tips: Liverpool & Newcastle to Proceed

29 Aug

After drawing 1-1 inGreece against Atromitos, Newcastle are expected to progress and reach Europa League group stage. Alan Pardew’s men did well last week in Athens and although they conceded the opening goal they were able to change the course of the match thanks to a superb Ryan Taylor strike they gave the Tyneside  a crucial away goal.

Atromitos are a decent team and Newcastle will have to be careful not to underestimate them in this match as the visitors were able to win in the Greek Super League opener in the weekend with a 2-0 at Kerkyra. It is difficult to think though that The Magpies, who have an exceptional home record, will concede a defeat and crashed out of Europe at those early stages. Pardew’s men have only lost three games last term and were able to keep nine clean sheets in 17 Premier league games at the Sports Direct Arena. This season they have only played one game so far but the trend hasn’t changed as they were able to record a 2-1 over Spurs. Although it is likely that the hosts will field a weakened side one between Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse will surely feature upfront. Unless the visitors will be able to score very early they will have to open up the game at some stage and I believe that Newcastle have enough pace in their ranks to catch the visitors on the counter. The Magpies are usually solid in front of their fans and baking them to win to nil looks a decent opportunity at 11/10. Also we need to note that Atromitos have conceded more than two goals in just one of their last 26 games. This statistic suggests that the under 2.5 goals is very tempting at 2/1.<br>

Liverpool with take on Hearts at Anfield road and it is difficult to escape the feeling that the Scottish side my have already missed the opportunity to win this tie. Last week they played quite well at Tynecastle but missed far too many opportunities in front of keeper Pepe Reina. To make things worse from them a late own goal from Andy Webster gave Liverpool a 1-0 win and they now face a mountain to climb to progress to the Europa league group stage. Even though Rogers will have to rest some of his players ahead of their clash on Sunday against Arsenal, I would take 5/6 Liverpool to win to nil especially as they are yet to concede a single goal in this competition.
